MINNEAPOLIS - The Michigan State baseball team dropped its regular-season finale on Saturday, falling to Minnesota, 2-1, at Siebert Field. In going 1-2 on the weekend, the Spartans are 33-21 overall and finished the Big Ten regular season with a 14-10 mark. The Big Ten Tournament begins Wednesday at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Minnesota (21-30, 9-15) limited the Spartans to just four hits in the game. Starter Dalton Sawyer (4-3) yielded one unearned run over 6.1 innings before turning the game over to the Gopher bullpen.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Austin Athmann doubled down the left field line, scoring Michael Handel for what proved to be the winning run.

The Spartans' only baserunner over the final three innings was neutralized when Brian Glowicki came out of the bullpen with one out in the seventh and got Chad Roskelly to hit into an inning-ending 6-3 double play.

MSU went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Spartans got the game's first run in the opening inning when Ryan Richardson's two-out single to right field scored Ryan Krill.

Krill got on base with a single earlier in the inning, extending his hitting streak to 19 games.

Minnesota made it a 1-1 game in the bottom of the second frame. With one out and runners on first and third, Matt Halloran hit a ball to left field that Cam Gibson dropped, allowing a run to score.

MSU starter Jeff Kinely went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs off six hits. He struck out five and walked one in taking the loss to fall to 4-3.

The bracket for the 2015 Big Ten Tournament will be released Saturday night.
