Weist and Krill Earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Honors

EAST LANSING - Michigan State outgoing seniors Mark Weist and Ryan Krill have both been voted to ABCA/Rawlings Mideast All-Region teams, it was announced on Wednesday, June 10. Weist, a third baseman, was voted to Mideast All-Region First Team, while Krill, a first baseman, was named to the second team.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee. All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced June 13.
Weist, a First-Team All-Big Ten honoree, ranked second on the team with a .346 batting average and had a team-leading 19 doubles - tied for the fifth highest single-season total in program history. The native of Saline recorded at least one hit in 47 of 57 games and ended the year on a season-long 10-game hitting streak. He started all 57 games at third base and had a team-high 24 multi-hit games.
Krill had the best season of his career in 2015 as he led the Big Ten in conference play in nearly every offensive category, including: batting average (.451), slugging percentage (.857), on-base percentage (.545), RBI (36) and home runs (10). The second-team All-Big Ten honoree's 57 total RBI tied for the ninth-highest single season total in program history.
The Kalamazoo native, who was drafted in the ninth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees on June 9, posted a team-high.351 batting average and finished the season with 13 home runs.
Krill was named the John Kobs Most Valuable Player, the Kirk Gibson Offensive Player of the Year and the Jerry Sutton Student Athlete Award winner this past season.
