Michigan State opened Big Ten play with a pair of road games at Iowa on Dec. 29 and at Minnesota on Jan. 2. In between splitting the two contests, the Spartans were able to cheer on the football team at the Cotton Bowl Classic in Arlington, Texas, as MSU reached a final four in men's basketball and football within the same calendar year. For freshman Matt McQuaid, it was a chance to go home and shoot in his high school gym, while the team caught up with Spartan great Draymond Green.
