
Four Individuals Competed at the USA College Challenge

EAST LANSING, Michigan -- Four members of the Michigan State swimming & diving team represented the Big Ten at the USA College Challenge, held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12-13 at IUPUI Natatorium. Team USA won the two-day met over the Big Ten, 349-247.
On the first day, juniors Madison Nowak and Racheal Bukowski competed with Emma Sougstad of Iowa and Dana Posthuma of Nebraska in the 400 yard medley relay. The team finished fifth on a final time of 3:38.74.
Senior Alec Kandt swam to a sixth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke on the first day of competition, with a final time of 2:02.97. Junior Mitch Strahlman also raced to a sixth place finish on Saturday, Nov. 12 in the 400 yard IM.
At the conclusion of the day on Saturday, Nov. 12, the USA National Team had a 185-111 advantage over the individuals competing for the Big Ten Conference.
Strahlman got the second day going with a sixth place finish in the 200 fly. He touched the pad at 1:51.46. Bukowski competed in the event immediately after, taking a seventh place finish in the 50 free.
Bukowski and Nowak both competed in the 400 free relay, but on separate teams. Bukowski and her team raced to a fifth place finish on a time of 3:21.69, while Nowak's team followed right behind coming in sixth. After 32 events, and two days later the USA National Team defeated the swimmers of the Big Ten Conference, 349-247.
The entire Michigan State swimming & diving team will turn its attention to the Northwestern Invite, which takes place Nov. 18-20 in Evanston, Ill.
