
Spartans Down SVSU in Exhibition Finale, 87-77

EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 12/9 Michigan State closed out exhibition play with an 87-77 win over Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday night at the Breslin Center. Four different Spartans scored in double figures, led by freshmen Miles Bridges and Cassius Winston, who had 20 and 18 points, respectively.
MSU led by as much as 19 in the contest, but the Cardinals cut the deficit to seven with just under seven minutes remaining. The Spartans battled and pushed the lead back to 15 to close out the game and come away with the victory.
Michigan State shot 29-54 (53.7%) from the floor after shooting 56 percent in the first exhibition. Eron Harris notched 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with a 5-6 performance at the free throw line.
SVSU's Garrett Hall led all scorers with 24 points, while C.J. Turnage added 20.
MSU owned a 42-27 advantage on the boards and outscored the Cardinals 44-34 in the paint. Harris grabbed a game-high nine boards, while Kenny Goins registered eight and Bridges added seven. Michigan State had 10 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.
The Spartans dished out 16 assists on 29 made baskets, led by Winston's six helpers. Bridges also blocked four shots to match his effort against Northwood.
The regular season begins on Friday, Nov. 11 in Honolulu, Hawaii when MSU takes on No. 10 Arizona in the Armed Forces Classic.
