EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State freshman forward Nick Ward has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Ward earned his first career start vs. Oakland (12/21) and scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds, leading MSU to a 77-65 win in the non-conference finale.
Ward is averaging 13.2 points per game to lead all Big Ten freshmen (Miles Bridges averages 16.6 points, but has missed too many games to currently qualify in the stats). The weekly honor is his second of the season, having first been honored on Dec. 5. Both Ward and Bridges have been named Freshman of the Week twice already this season, marking the first time the Spartans have had two players earn the recognition multiple times in a season.
MSU kicks off its Big Ten schedule on Tuesday at Minnesota with tipoff scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
