EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State freshman forward Nick Ward has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Ward averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 20.0 minutes last week in matchups at Duke (11/29) and vs. Oral Roberts (12/3).
The Gahanna, Ohio native scored a season-high 24 points vs. Oral Roberts on Saturday en route to registering his first career double-double with 10 rebounds. He also dished out a season-high three assists and blocked three shots.
The weekly award is the first of his career and he joins Miles Bridges as the other Spartan to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week so far this season. With Bridges' two selections and Ward's this week, MSU has earned a Freshman of the Week selection in three of four weeks.
For the season, Ward is third on the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg and second in rebounds, averaging 6.0 per contest.
MSU returns to action at home on Tuesday when it welcomes Youngstown State to the Breslin Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
