Wollenman Named Academic All-District

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State redshirt senior Colby Wollenman was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 5 men's basketball team. The forward from Big Horn, Wyoming, owns a 3.98 overall GPA as a physiology (pre-med) major. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Wollenman has appeared in 22 games this season, averaging 6.2 minutes per contest. The forward sports a .500 mark from the field and .750 from the charity stripe this season. A career-high five-point outing came at Boston College on Nov. 26. He also garnered a career-best six rebounds against Kansas on Nov. 17.
He was the 2015 recipient of NCAA's Elite 89 Award for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship, presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the Final Four.
Wollenman is joined on the All-District 5 First Team by Central Michigan's Chris Fowler, Oakland's Max Hooper, IUPUI's Matt O'Leary and Valparaiso's Alec Peters.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
