NEW ORLEANS â€" Sophomore Sarah Burnham shot a 2-under-par 70 in Sunday's first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship and is tied for seventh place, just two shots off the lead. The No. 32 Spartans are in 12th place on the team leaderboard after carding a 13-over 301. The 17-team tournament, which is being hosted by Tulane at the English Turn Golf and Country Club, features 12 programs ranked in the Golfstat Top 50.
Burnham produced five birdies in her opening-round 70, which marked her team-best sixth under-par round of the season. She trails Stanford's Lauren Kim (68) by two shots for first place.
Senior Gabby Yurik is tied for 38th place with her 3-over 75, while fellow senior Alison Knowles is tied for 58th at 4-over 77. Redshirt sophomore Katie Sharp rounded out the team scoring on Sunday with a 7-over 79.
Freshman Carolyn Markley shot an 88.
No. 12 Arizona and No. 13 Oklahoma State are tied for first place at 287, one shot ahead of host Tulane and No. 11 Florida.
Round two of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship has been moved up to 8 a.m. on Monday due to potential inclement weather in the New Orleans area. MSU will tee off at hole No. 10, along with LSU and UCLA. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
