Spartans Open Meyo Invite With Top Marks

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Michigan State track & field opened the Meyo Invite on Friday, Feb. 5, in the Loftus Sports Center in South Bend, Indiana, with a pair of top-three finishes. Junior Vinny Gjokaj and senior Cynthia Watt each garnered third-place honors in the weight throw.
In the women's long jump, freshman Autumn Robinson finished fifth with a leap of 5.85m, which came on her second attempt of the afternoon. Freshman Asya Reynolds rounded out the top 10 with a 5.61-meter jump.
Freshman Will Agodu qualified for Saturday's finals of the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8.18 to take second in the opening heat of the preliminaries.
A pair of Spartans notched top-10 performances in the men's weight throw. Gjokaj earned third-place honors with a 21.05m, while sophomore Riley Norman's toss of 20.38m garnered seventh. In the women's weight throw, Watt finished third with a toss of 19.57m on her sixth and final attempt.
Sophomore Ellen DiPietro continued to lead MSU's high jump attach, taking sixth with a clearance of 1.72m. Senior Adeline Grier-Welch made 1.67m on her second attempt before being knocked on at 1.72m.
On the track, juniors Erin Billette and Aubrey Wilberding, sophomore Erin McDonald and junior Molly Jeakle combined to take fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 11:35.85. Freshmen Andrew Middleton and Kael Fineout, sophomore Daniel Kroth and senior Nick Moon turned in a 10:03.51 in the men's DMR for sixth.
Michigan State closes out the Meyo Invite on Saturday, Feb. 6. Events commence at 9:45 a.m. with the women's unseeded 3,000-meter run, while field events reconvene at 10:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump and shot put.
