Valentine Named Big Ten Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior guard Denzel Valentine was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week for the third time this season, announced the league office Monday. Valentine put together an all-around performance at Michigan on Feb. 6, leading the team with nine rebounds and eight assists, while scoring 21 points.
Valentine is averaging 18.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists in eight games since returning from injury, including 21.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists in his last six contests. He ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring (18.6), first in assists (6.7) and fifth in rebounds (7.9).
The Lansing native is the only player in Big Ten history to record 1,300 points, 700 rebounds and 500 assists in his career
Valentine was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Top 20, the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and is one of 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
Three different Spartans have garnered weekly accolades from the Big Ten. Freshman forward Deyonta Davis was named the Freshman of the Week on Nov. 30 and Feb. 1, senior guard Bryn Forbes was the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 28, while Valentine has earned the honor on Nov. 23, Nov. 30 and Feb. 8.
Michigan State returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Purdue. Tipoff from West Lafayette is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN.
