No. 23 Spartans Place 15th at Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. â€" In a loaded field that featured 10 teams in the Golfstat Top 25, the No. 23 Michigan State women's golf team placed 15th in the Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. The Spartans concluded action in the three-day, 54-hole event with their best showing of the tournament, shooting a 16-over-par 300 in Tuesday's third and final round. Overall, MSU finished at 71-over 923 (309-314-300).
Sophomore Sarah Burnham led the Spartans with a 31st-place showing. The Maple Grove, Minnesota, native carded an 11-over 224 (74-76-74) and ranked first on the team with eight birdies in the tournament.
Senior Alison Knowles paced Michigan State on Tuesday with her 2-over 73, jumping up nine spots on the leaderboard to tie for 41st.
Freshman Carolyn Markley tied for 53rd at 232 (77-79-76) and senior Gabby Yurik tied for 72nd at 238 (81-80-77). Redshirt sophomore Katie Sharp carded an 81 in the final round.
No. 14 Washington won the tournament with a team score of 858.
MSU returns to action for the Allstate Intercollegiate Sugar Bowl Championship in New Orleans on Feb. 21-23.
