Spartans Scrimmage IU, UM This Weekend

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State, which competed two weeks ago in Tennessee, is racing Big Ten rivals Indiana and Michigan this weekend in a series of non-countable scrimmage pieces. Racing will be conducted on Belleville Lake (Michigan's home course) on Friday and Saturday.
The teams will have a series of longer pieces on Friday in head race format, and then will race on Saturday in 1500-meter races in regatta format.
"These races aren't an official event, but instead a chance for us to get some of the pre-season kinks out of the lineups and the race plans," said head coach Matt Weise. "For us in the Big Ten, we are all battling the same unpredictable weather and conditions as we approach our upcoming race schedule, and it looks like we will have some good conditions to get out on the water to fine-tune what we're doing."
The Spartans are optimistic after their performance at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on March 11-12, with solid improvement made in all six boats. The Spartans will compete at Ohio State next Saturday (April 2), racing Virginia, Clemson, and the University of Michigan.
