Rhynard Earns 2016 Academic All-America Honors

EAST LANSING, Michigan - Caleb Rhynard of the Michigan State track & field and cross country teams has been named to the 2016 Academic All-America® Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Rhynard clocked a 30:28.77 to finish 22nd at the NCAA East Prelims this past season. During the indoor season, he finished on the podium in third at the league championships, crossing the line in 14:02.10 in the 5,000 meters. The Shepherd, Michigan, native rounded out the top 10 with a 30:52.0 to become the first Spartan in history to earn All-Great Lakes Regional honors four times in cross country.
The 2014 first-team All-Big Ten runner and 2013 All-American in cross country has been an Academic All-Big Ten selection, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and two-time USTFCCCA All-American.
Of the 45 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Men's Track Field/Cross Country team members, 26 have grade-point averages of 3.90 or higher including 14 who have a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team combined for a 3.852 G.P.A.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
