Spartans Complete Racing Schedule at Oak Ridge

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State finished the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on Sunday morning.
The varsity eight was clocked in a time of 6:35.053 to take third. Michigan won the race in a time of 6:23.194, with open water over the field. Virginia was nearly in contact, finishing second in 6:28.789; the Spartans were just over six seconds back, about the same margin it was behind the Cavaliers on Saturday morning.
Both novice eights were in the same race on Sunday morning - the first novice entry pushed Virginia to the end, finishing two seats behind the Cavaliers at the finish line. Virginia finished in a time of 6:47.422, the MSU first novice crossed the line in 6:48.318, and the second novice eight in 7:23.320. Tennessee was behind the pack in 7:39.673.
MSU's second varsity eight battled down the course and was edged by Tennessee by the smallest of margins - MSU's 6:52.579 was a bowball behind the Volunteers (6:52.199), .391 seconds off. Michigan won the race in a time of 6:28.877, and Virginia was a length back at 6:35.381.
The varsity four was also fourth, in a time of 7:56.439 - Virginia (6:47.422) had open water over Michigan (7:21.420), and Tennessee in third (7:35.366).
