Meet the Spartans: Austen Malczewski

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State wrestling will feature a freshman periodically throughout the preseason in order to "Meet the Spartans" leading up to the 2017-18 season.
This week freshman Austen Malczewski (Romeo, Michigan/Romeo High School) sat down with msuspartans.com to answer some questions.
1. Why did you choose to wrestle at Michigan State?
I've always wanted to wrestle at a big ten school since I was young. It was always an academic goal of mine to attend MSU, then when I got the opportunity to wrestle there it was a no-brainer.
2. What are you most excited about as you begin your Spartan wrestling career?
Relationships with teammates and being part of something bigger than just your typical college education.
3. When did you first start wrestling?
On and off since 2nd grade
4. Favorite wrestling memory?
Performing well at the state tournament my senior year.
5. What's your major at Michigan State and why?
Finance, I am pretty proficient with numbers and the stock market interests me.
6. Who has taught you the most about wrestling growing up?
Jim Cali, my high school coach
7. What superhero power would you have if you could choose one?
Flying
8. Favorite meal?
Steak and eggs
9. Favorite TV show?
The Office
10. Favorite thing to do besides wrestling?
Fishing
