EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State diver Amanda Ling was named Co-Big Ten Diver of the Week as announced by the Big Ten office on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Ling will be the first to receive a Big Ten weekly honor for the 2018-19 season, and shared it with Michigan diver Christy Cutshaw.
Ling scored a 292.8 in the 3-meter dive, her new personal best, and scored a 268.87 in the 1-meter dive at the dual meet against Iowa last Friday. Both are NCAA qualifying standards, setting Ling up for an appearance at the regional championship March 8-10, 2019.
"She trained great this summer. She learned four new dives on the 3-meter and she debuted three of the four and had her personal best on 3-meter by over 20 points," head diving coach Eric Best said. "That just followed a lot of hard work this summer and also with great finishes at the USA Nationals."
This is the first time in her career that Ling has been named diver of the week. The last Spartan to receive this award was current senior Morgan Wellenzohn on Oct. 18, 2018.
The Spartan women next compete on Friday, Oct. 12 at Illinois. The men's team takes on Illinois-Chicago the same day.
