
Jones, Neely and Hoerner-O’Malley Honored as PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month

Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2018-19 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
The honorees for October are DeJuan Jones (men's soccer), Erin Neely (women's swimming & diving) and Molly Hoerner-O'Malley (gymnastics).
Jones is a senior from Lansing, Mich., majoring in elementary education, while concentrating in Urban Education and Teaching English as a Second Language. So far this season, he is tied for the team lead with five goals, also chipping in two assists, for 12 points. Jones was a second team All-Big Ten and Academic All-Big Ten selection as a junior, finishing second on the team with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. Off the field, Jones has been heavily involved with Athletes for Hope, volunteering at local elementary schools. He is a member of MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Neely, a sophomore diver from Urbana, Ill., is a microbiology major with a Spanish minor. As a freshman, she qualified for the NCAA Zone C Championships in the 3-meter. Neely is the student-athlete leader of the Spartan Buddies Program, a program where student-athletes are trained to serve as pediatric ward volunteers at Sparrow Hospital. Neely is also a member of MSU's SAAC and the Honor's College.
Hoerner-O'Malley is a senior from Farmington Hills, Mich., majoring in advertising management with a minor in graphic design and sports business management. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, she set a career high on beam last season vs. Illinois with a 9.825. In the community, Hoerner-O'Malley has been involved in numerous outreach initiatives, including Teams for Toys, Children's Miracle Network, and wheelchair tennis.
