13 Spartans To Compete At USA Winter Nationals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming program will send 13 Spartans to Greensboro, N.C. to compete at the USA Winter Nationals. The meet will be held from Nov. 28-Dec. 1 in the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Jonathan Lee, Kevin Mills, Nehemiah Mork, Guy Moskovich, Scott Piper, Charlie Ryan, Jacob Sauter, Michael Schwers, Lucas Smiarowski and Payton Woods will be representing the Spartans on the men's side. From the women's team, Ellie Roche, Ana Sortland and Erin Szara will be competing.
These athletes are coming off of impressive performances at the Northwestern TYR Invitational, where both the men and women finished in third.
Szara, in the preliminary rounds, broke a new varsity record in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.32.
In the 200 IM, Piper clocked a time of 1:51.56 to take seventh place.
The men's 400-medley relay team that consisted of Lee, Ryan, Schwers and Woods finished fourth as they came in at 3:20.35.
Sortland, Szara and Roche all placed in the 100 breaststroke. Sortland came in fourth, 1:02.30, Szara came in fifth, 1:02.55, and Roche finished in sixth, 1:02.69.
Lee placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.72. Also in the 200 breaststroke, Roche finished fourth clocking a time of 2:15.79.
Mork and Woods, along with Aidan Farley and Josh Lantow, took third-place with a time of 2:58.93 in the 400-freestyle relay.
