
Jones Named Big Ten Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

DeJuan Jones earned his third career B1G honor.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior DeJuan Jones was honored on Tuesday as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
Jones, a senior forward from Lansing, Michigan, earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after a nine-point performance. He scored two goals in a win against Bowling Green on Sept. 7, and managed to top that with two goals and an assist in a victory over Oakland on Sept. 10. This is the third award for Jones who also was last honored by the league on Sept. 12, 2017. The senior scored twice in the second half to lead the Spartans to a 2-1 win. He currently leads the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for nine points.
Michigan State is ranked in the top seven in all three polls this week. The Spartans are ranked No. 4 in the this week's United Soccer Coaches poll with a record of 5-0-1. College Soccer News has MSU ranked No. 5, while standing No. 7 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll.
The Spartans now hit the road for a pair of tough battles. Michigan State will take on Yale on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. MSU will then take No. 8 Notre Dame on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are 1-2 this season, while the Fighting Irish are 3-0-1 this season with wins over two ranked teams.
