Spartans in the Lead at the Windon Memorial Through Two Rounds

LAKE FOREST, Illinois -- The Michigan State men's golf team is atop the field at the Windon Memorial Classic through two rounds of play. The Spartans shot a 9-under-par 567 (281-286) on Sunday at the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, and will carry a seven-shot lead into Monday's final round. UCLA is seven strokes back of the Spartans and in second place, while Northern Illinois is in third place and eight shots behind MSU.
The Spartans' 7-under-par 281 in round one was the lowest score of the day by any team in either round. Four of the five Spartans were all under par in the opening round, led by Andrew Walker's 5-under-par 67 – one shot off his-career best score. He birdied three of the first seven holes and penciled six birdies total in the round with just one bogey. In round two, Walker was 2-over-par after three holes but settled in to card a 1-under-par 71.
Walker is one of three players tied for second place at 6-under-par 138, one shot back of UC Davis' Thomas Hutchinson for the lead.
Donnie Trosper carded a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round and shaved two more strokes in round two, turning in a 3-under-par 69. Trosper had just two bogeys in 36 holes and is tied for seventh place at 4-under-par 140.
James Piot gave the Spartans three players in the top 10 as he's tied for 10th place at 1-under-par 143. Piot was 1-over-par 73 in round one, but with the help of three birdies over the final seven holes of round two he shot a 2-under-par 70.
Troy Taylor II is 2-over-par 146 and tied for 27th place. Taylor's 2-under-par 70 included an eagle on the par-5, 504-yard sixth hole. He shot a 4-over-par76 in round two.
Zach Rosendale shot a pair of 7-over-par 79s.
The Spartans will tee off between 10:30 and 11:06 a.m. ET in Monday's final round.
