Spartan Women's Basketball Begins Practice Thursday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball began preparing for the 2018-19 season with the first official practice of the season. After practice, 12th-year head coach Suzy Merchant spoke about the upcoming Spartan squad.

MSU brings back four starters from last season's team that went 19-14, advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Women's National Invitation Tournament . Redshirt-junior guard Shay Colley is currently playing for Team Canada in the FIBA Women's World Cup in Spain. She led the Spartans' in scoring last season with 12.4 points per game. Junior guard Taryn McCutcheon was second in scoring, averaging 10.2 ppg, while leading the team with 4.3 assists per game. The lone senior on the team in senior center Jenna Allen, while sophomore forward Sidney Cooks also returns as a starter.

MSU opens the 2018-19 season at home against Hillsdale in its only exhibition on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
