Allen and Mokma Honored as PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2018-19 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.
The honorees for January are Jenna Allen (women's basketball) and Mike Mokma (baseball).
Allen, a senior forward from Bedford, Ind., is majoring in kinesiology. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and team captain, she leads the team and is top-10 in the Big Ten in scoring (15.9 points per game), rebounding (7.9) and field goal percentage (56.1%). Off the court, Allen is the team's SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) representative, and has been heavily involved in community initiatives such as Teams for Toys, Chuck-A-Puck, Teddy Bear Picnic, EmpowHer and visits to Sparrow Hospital. Last summer, Allen interned with Dr. Laucher at Providence Family Chiropractic.
Mokma, a junior pitcher from Holland, Mich., is an interdisciplinary studies major, focusing on health studies. He has appeared in 29 games as a Spartan, including 13 starts, posting a 4.20 ERA. Mokma and the Spartans traveled to the Dominican Republic this December where they did community service, played baseball and interacted with the locals.
