Green Garners Game One Victory In MSU Baseball Green-White World Series

Peterson boosts Green in opening game with home run.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State baseball's annual Green-White World Series opened Thursday afternoon at McLane Stadium with Green winning the opening game of the three-game series by a score of 7-2.
Senior infielder Bailey Peterson propelled Green with two hits, including a home run, with two RBI and scoring a pair of runs.
Junior catcher Adam Proctor, sophomore infielder Trevor Hopman and freshman outfielder Jack Frank also all had two hits apiece. Proctor and Frank each rapped a triple, with Proctor tallying two RBI and Frank driving in one run. Hopman had a double and an RBI.
On the mound, junior hurler Mason Erla went 4.1 innings with two strikeouts, yielding four hits and two runs. Senior Jarret Olson fired four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work, while sophomore Colten Panaranto came on and got a strikeout to end the game and seal the victory for Green.
White was led by senior outfielder Bryce Kelley, rapping two hits to go with two walks, and posting one RBI. Senior infielder Justin Antoncic had two hits, junior outfielder Danny Gleaves had one hit with a double, adding a walk and scoring one run. Freshman infielder Dillon Kark added a hit and RBI.
Senior pitcher Caleb Sleeman paced White on the mound, going 4.0 IP with three Ks. Fellow senior Sam Benschoter rang up a pair of punchouts in two innings.
Green jumped out with a run in the top of the second after Frank's RBI, driving in Stewart who led off with a single and moved up to second on a wild pitch. The lead grew to 3-0 with two in the top of the third after Peterson reached on an error, followed by Iverson walking and stealing second. Proctor followed with a triple to clear the bases, plating Peterson and Iverson.
White got on the board in the home half of the third after a lead off double by Gleaves, and three batters later, Kelley drove him in with a two-out single.
White cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth as Trahey drew a one-out walk and moved up to second on a ground out, and Kark plated him with a single.
Green pulled away with two-out run in the sixth after Frank sparked the rally with a triple, and Trevor Hopman singled him in for a 4-2 advantage, then blew it open with a three-run seventh. Zach Hopman started things off by reaching on an error, followed by sophomore infielder Ryan King drawing a walk, then Zach Hopman scored on a wild pitch. Peterson then belted a two-run round-tripper and cap the scoring at 7-2.
The series continues with Game 2 on Sunday Oct 13 at 1 p.m. (9 innings), and Game 3 will be Tuesday, October 15 at 3 p.m. (7 innings).Â
Admission is free. Probable pitching starters are game-time decisions.
Sunday is also MSU Parents Day, with an event for the Spartan parents following the game.
