Spartans Move up Eight Spots on Saturday at The Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The No. 10 Michigan State women's golf team tied for the third-best round of the day on Saturday at The Landfall Tradition with a 1-over-par 289 as the Spartans moved into ninth place at the tournament in Wilmington, North Carolina. Saturday's effort moved the Spartans eight spots up the leaderboard as they're 12-over-par 588 (299-289) and will go into Sunday just four shots out of the top six.

No. 13 Alabama leads the tournament at 13-under-par 563. Ninth-ranked South Carolina is the only other team under par at 2-under-par 574.
Valery Plata had the best round of the day by any Spartan with a 3-under-par 69, moving her into a tie for 14th place. Plata, who had six birdies on Saturday, is now even-par 144 (75-69) for the tournament and five shots out of first place.
Haylin Harris was 3-over-par through nine holes on Saturday, but three birdies after the turn got her to 1-over-par 73. She moved into 34th place at 3-over-par 147 (74-73).
Allyson Geer-Park cut two strokes off her opening-round score, carding a 1-over-par 73 on Saturday. She's 4-over-par 148 (75-73) and tied for 40th place.
Yurika Tanida is 5-over-par 149 (75-74) and in 44th place after her 2-over-par 74 in the second round.
Sydney Naro shot a 3-over-par 75 on Saturday and is 7-over-par 151 (76-75).
Paz Marfa Sans, who is playing as an individual, shot a 2-under-par 70, as all six Spartans in the field improved on their opening round scores. Marfa Sans is 1-over-par 145 (75-70) and tied for 17th place.
Alabama's Angelica Moresco leads the field at 5-under-par 139 (69-70).
Sunday's final round will begin with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
