Spartans Cap Fall With Sixth-Place Finish at The Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The 10th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team moved up three spots on the final day of The Landfall Tradition to take sixth place at 10-over-par 874 (299-289-286). In a tournament that included six teams in the top 20, the Spartans had the second-best score of the day on Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall with a 2-under-par 286.

MSU finished seven shots ahead of No. 20 Virginia Tech and was just two shots out of fourth place. No. 9 South Carolina won the tournament at 7-under-par 857 (289-285-283).
Allyson Geer-Park led the Spartans by finishing 11th at even-par 216 (75-73-68). Her 4-under-par 68 on Sunday was the lowest round of the tournament by any Spartan and tied for the lowest round of the day by any player in the field. Geer-Park had four birdies and an eagle – her first of the fall – on the par-4, 336-yard 11th hole.
Like Geer-Park, Yurika Tanida improved her score over each round, culminating with a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday with the help of three birdies over the final six holes. She finished tied for 17th place at 2-over-par 218 (75-74-69).
Valery Plata had a steady round on Sunday with 17 pars and carded a 2-over-par 74. She finished the tournament 2-over-par 218 (75-69-74) and tied for 17th place.
Haylin Harris finished the tournament 6-over-par 222 (74-73-75) after a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday. She tied for 39th place.
Sydney Naro was 19-over-par 235 (76-75-84).
Paz Marfa Sans played as an individual and had the best finish of any Spartan, tying for sixth place at 2-under-par 214 (75-70-69). Marfa Sans shot a 3-under-par 69, recording four birdies over her final six holes.
Michigan State finished its fall schedule by placing in the top six of all four tournaments in which it competed, which included two wins (Fossum Invitational and Tar Heel Invitational).
The Spartans resume their 2019-20 schedule Feb. 2-4 with the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida.
