Michigan State Edges No. 12 Seton Hall in Gavitt Tipoff Games

NEWARK - The No. 3-ranked Michigan State's men's basketball team used a 10-2 run in the final minutes to knock off No. 12 Seton Hall, 76-73, in the Gavitt Tipoff Games Thursday night at the Prudential Center. Senior guard Cassius Winston (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) led the Spartans with 21 points and freshman forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy (Kan.)) finished with 17 points and the go-ahead basket with 26 seconds left in the game.
Summary
• Michigan State raced out to a quick 5-0 in the opening minutes after a jumper by Xavier Tillman (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and 3-pointer by Winston.
• Gabe Brown (Yspsilanti, Mich./Belleville) gave the Spartans a 17-13 lead at the 12:23 mark of the first half with a 3-pointer from the left wing.
• MSU held a 21-18 lead for just over eight minutes in the first half before going on a 6-0 after two free throws from Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) and a fast break layup by Foster Loyer (Clarkston, Mich./ Clarkston).

• Hall's go-ahead layup with 22.3 seconds gave the Spartans a 74-73 lead.
• Winston added two late free throws to give the Spartans the 76-73 win.
