EAST LANSING – Michigan State goaltender John Lethemon has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Additionally, Lethemon was named the NCAA's Third Star of the Week.
Lethemon led the Spartans to a weekend sweep of Michigan last wekend, posting a .960 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average on the weekend. He helped the Spartans come back from a 3-1 deficit on the road by stopping all nine shots he faced in the third period of Thursday's 4-3 road win. On Saturday at Munn, the senior recorded his second shutout in the last four games with a 35-save performance in the 3-0 victory.
It's the second straight week a Spartan has been named the conference's top star as Patrick Khodorenko garnered the honor on Nov. 12. The Big Ten and NCAA honors are the first of Lethemon's career.
Michigan State hosts No. 3/3 Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday this week at Munn.
