EAST LANSING – Senior Sam Saliba has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. It's the third consecutive week a Spartan has been named the league's first star.
Saliba scored three of the Spartans' four goals last weekend against third-ranked Notre Dame as the Spartans took four of six points from the Irish. On Friday, Saliba scored the Spartans' lone goal in a 1-1 tie. The following night, he tied the game, 1-1, with an unassisted goal in the second period. With the game again tied late in the third, Saliba gave MSU the lead with 1:10 to play, giving the Spartans a 3-2 victory.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Saliba's career.
The 20th-ranked Spartans head to No. 11 Ohio State this weekend to meet the Buckeyes on Saturday (5 p.m.) and Sunday (2:30 p.m.) in Columbus.
