"I think it was productive weekend," MSU head coach Casey Lubahn said. "There are some things we need to button up and there were a couple guys maybe didn't have their best stuff, but we got a couple of good wins in some hard fought matches."
The Spartans' Donnie Trosper picked up wins in both of his matches on Saturday and finished the tournament a perfect 4-0.
"Donnie was basically brilliant coming off the flu all week," Lubahn said. "To go 4-0 is a really big accomplishment."
Trosper defeated Griffin Barela (4 & 2), while Andrew Walker topped Sam Anderson (1 up) to earn the Spartans' wins in the 4-2 loss to Wisconsin.
In the afternoon 3.5-2.5 win over the Wildcats, James Piot got a 2 & 1 win over Ryan Lumsden; Trosper defeated David Nyfjall, 3 & 2; and Zach Rosendale finished 2 up Lucas Becht. Kaleb Johnson finished all square with Pete Griffith.
