Spartans in Top Five After Two Rounds of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – The Michigan State men's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of play at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Spartans are 7-over-par 583 (295-288), one shot behind third-place North Florida and nine shots back of the leader, Illinois.
Golfstat
Donnie Trosper is tied for third place at 3-under-par 141. Trosper shot a 2-under-par 70 in round one and followed it up with a 1-under-par 71 in the afternoon at the UNC Finley Course. Trosper collected eight birdies on the day and one eagle, which came on the par-5 sixth hole in the second round.
James Piot improved by five strokes over the first round and moved into a tie for 15th place at 1-over-par 145. Piot shot a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round and then fired a 2-under-par 70 in the second round.
Troy Taylor II is tied for 27th place at 4-over-par 148 after a 1-over-par 73 and 3-over-par 75, respectively.
Like Piot, Andrew Walker cut five strokes off his second round score. He shot a 5-over-par 77 and then an even-par 72 in round two, which included an eagle on the par-5, 560-yard third hole. He's 5-over-par 149 and tied for 32nd place.
Zach Rosendale is 13-over-par 157 (81-76).
Trosper enters the final round one shot back of North Florida's Phillip Knowles for second place and four behind the leader, Adrien Dumont de Chassart, of Illinois.
The Spartans will tee off between 8:45 and 9:21 a.m. in Sunday's final round.
