Spartans Seventh After Two Rounds at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – The Michigan State men's golf team is in seventh place at 13-over-par 589 (285-304) after two rounds of play at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Saturday.

Mississippi State leads the tournament at 17-under-par 559 -11 shots ahead of second place Northwestern. The Spartans are seven shots out of the top five.
A pair of Spartans will enter the final round in the top 15 as James Piot is tied for 10th at 1-under-par 143 (70-73), and Troy Taylor II is tied for 14th at 1-over-par 145 (68-77).
Piot shot an opening round 2-under-par 70 and birdied four of his final five holes. In the second round, he was 3-over-par with six holes to go, but picked up two birdies and four pars to end with a 1-over-par 73.
Taylor recorded the lowest round of the day by any Spartan with a 4-under-par 68 in the opener. Taylor had six birdies in the opening round, including four over six-hole stretch between No. 13 and 18. He shot a 5-over-par 77 in the afternoon.
Off his individual title earlier this week at the Colleton River Collegiate, Donnie Trosper is 6-over-par 144 (70-80) and tied for 35th place.
Andrew Walker cut four strokes off his first round score with a 2-over-par 74 in the afternoon. He's 8-over-par 152 (78-74) and in 43rd place.
Kaleb Johnson is 14-over-par 158 (77-81) and in 63rd place.
Sunday's final round is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET.
