Spartans Lead Robert Kepler Intercollegiate After One Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Michigan State men's golf team leads the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate after one round of play on Friday in Columbus, Ohio. The Spartans' 10-over-par 294 at the OSU Scarlet Course was one shot better than the host Buckeyes, while they're seven strokes up on third-place Penn State.
GOLFSTAT
The teams were supposed to play two rounds on Friday, but wet conditions on the course halted play after the opening 18 holes. Due to course conditions and expected poor weather on Saturday, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes and the teams will play one round tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m.
James Piot had the second-lowest score of any player in the field in the opening round with a 1-under-par 70. Piot was bogey-free through 10 holes and recorded four birdies in the round.
Piot is just one shot behind OSU's Daniel Wetterich for the lead.
Freshman Troy Taylor II, who hails from just outside Columbus in Westerville, Ohio, put together a strong opening round as his 2-over-par 73 put him in a tie for sixth place.
Kaleb Johnson shot a 4-over-par 75 and is tied for 14th place in his return to the starting lineup.
After going 4-over-par on the front nine, Donnie Trosper used a birdie and two pars to end his day at 5-over-par 76, putting him in a tie for 22nd place.
Andrew Walker shot a 9-over-par 80; he's tied for 50th place.
