CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team fell to Illinois, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon in Champaign, Ill:
The Fighting Illini secured the doubles point with wins on courts on one and three.
Maja Pietrowicz and Emily Metcalf fell to Sasha Belaya and Jaclyn Switkes, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
The Spartans evened the race for the doubles point as junior Samantha Memije and freshman Nicole Stephens defeated Dani Pedraza Novak and Emilee Duong, 6-4, on court two.
The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 doubles as senior Davina Nguyen and freshman Lauren Lemonds fell to Asuka Kawai and Mia Rabinowitz, 6-4.
Illinois won the first five singles matches to clinch the match.
Duong defeated Stephens 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 on court five. Metcalf fell to Novak, 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, on court six.
The match was clinched at No. 2 singles as Lemonds dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) decision against Rabinowitz.
With the match already clinched, Illinois had two more singles victories to close the match.
Nguyen fell to Switkes, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 on court three. #54 Kuwai defeated Memije at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to close the match.
The Spartans take on Northwestern tomorrow at 12 p.m. in Evanston, Ill.
