EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) doled out their yearly honors on Thursday, June 27, announcing their CRCA Scholar Athletes and the 2019 Pocock Division I All-Americans. Senior Meaghan Faucher was named an Honorable Mention All-American, while 10 Spartans earned academic honors.
Earning academic honors for Michigan State were Madelyn Bagley, Faucher, Rachel Hayes, Mary Martha Kennedy, Cassie Kingma, Emily Mall, Teresa Menzel, Halle Nielsen, Clare Sutka, and Johanna Uckele. To earn CRCA academic honors, student-athletes must meet all eligibility requirements as defined by her institution, be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, row in an NCAA eligible boat for a minimum of 75% of spring races and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 of higher for her career.
This is a first-time honor for Hayes, Kennedy, Kingma and Menzel, while Uckele, Sutka, Nielsen and Mall are now two-time honorees. Faucher and Bagley each earned CRCA scholar honors for three straight seasons.
Faucher's honorable mention for the Pocock Division I All-America team is the first of her career and it comes following a season in which she was named first team All-Big Ten at the 2019 Big Ten Rowing Championships. Sitting in the stroke seat for all six regattas with the varsity eight, Faucher helped the boat to a season best time of 6:29.17 at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on April 27 where the boat placed second overall and defeated schools such as Duke, Clemson, Central Florida, Georgetown, Temple, Miami and North Carolina.
Rowers are selected for the All-America teams based on a mixture of their strength of finish within the varsity eight nationally, coach comments and a 2k erg score. Nominee's must also be in good academic standing with their respective institutions while competing in 75% of races in a varsity boat.
