Spartans Second After Two Rounds of the Glass City Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Michigan State women's golf team got its 2019-20 season off to a strong start on Monday as the Spartans are in second place after two rounds of the Glass City Invitational, in Toledo, Ohio. The tournament, which is being played at the prestigious Inverness Club, includes eight teams that played in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Spartans are 7-over-par 583 (288-295) - just two shots behind tournament-leader Florida. MSU is two strokes up on third-place Illinois.

Individually, three Spartans are in the top 10. Yurika Tanida is one of just four players in the field of 80 to be under par as she's tied for third at 1-under-par 143 (74-69). Allyson Geer-Park is tied for sixth place at 1-over-par 145 (71-74), while Paz Marfa Sans is 2-over-par 146 (70-76) and tied for 10th.
Tanida's second-round 3-under-par 69 tied for the lowest round of the day. She started the round with consecutive birdies, and then recorded three more over her final six holes. The junior set up her solid second round with three birdies over the final six holes of her opening round.
Tanida is just three shots behind the leader, Natalie Srinivasan of Furman, who is 4-under-par 140 (70-70).
Geer-Park carded a 1-under-par 71 in an opening round that saw her record 15 pars and two birdies. She followed it up with a 2-over-par 74 in round two.
Marfa Sans began the day with a 2-under-par 70 and was in a six-way tie for first place after the opening round. She was 5-over-par through 10 holes in round two, but made seven straight pars and ended the round with a birdie for a 4-over-par 76.
In her first collegiate round, freshman Nina Rissi shot a 1-over-par 73. She added a 4-over-par 76 in the second round and sits in 23rd place at 5-over-par 149.
Sophomore Valery Plata is 12-over-par 156 (78-78).
Haylin Harris, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 12th place at 3-over-par 147 (73-74). Catherine McEvoy is also competing as an individual and is 13-over-par 157 (76-81).
The Spartans will tee off from hole No. 1 between 8:50-9:30 a.m. in Tuesday's final round at the 6,249-yard course. ESPN3 will carry a live stream of the final round beginning at noon.
