EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior Yurika Tanida has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Tanida posted the best finish of her career at the Glass City Invitational in Toledo, Ohio, earlier this week as she tied for fourth place.
Tanida finished the tournament, which took place at the prestigious Inverness Club, 1-over-par 217 (74-69-74) to lead all Spartans. In total, she recorded 46 of the 54 holes at or below par. Her second-round 3-under-par 69 was the third-lowest round of her career.
Tanida's effort helped the Spartans to a third-place finish at the Glass City Invite, which included eight teams from last year's NCAA Tournament. It's the first weekly conference honor for Tanida, who is a native of Kanagawa, Japan.
The Spartans host the 36th Mary Fossum Invitational this coming weekend at Forest Akers West. Play will get underway on Sunday at 9 a.m. (36 holes), and conclude on Monday (18 holes).
