Men's Tennis Collects Eight Wins in Day Two of Ivy Plus, Bayliss Invites

SOUTH BEND/PRINCETON - The Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up day two of the Farnsworth-Ivy Plus and Bayliss Invite with eight wins.
Sophomore Anthony Perf improved to 3-0 on the weekend with two singles wins, while junior John Carlin added two wins in singles action. Freshmen Drew Keene and Kazuki Matsuno each collected their first collegiate win for the Spartans on the day.
Pero began the day with a three-set win over Tennessee's Jordan Chrysostom (6-4, 3-6, 7-6(1) and followed with a victory over Will Peters of Princeton (6-3, 6-3) to move on to the finals in his bracket.Â
Carlin earned his first of two victories over Alp Sentay (Penn State), 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8). In his semifinal match, Carlin dropped Columbia's Ben Gollin, 6-3, 6-2. Carlin will join Pero tomorrow in the finals of their respective bracket.
Gates finished 1-1 on the day with a win over Teddy Oosterbaan of Michigan, 6-2, 7-6(1), before falling to Payam Ahmadi of Indiana, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(4).
Keene's first collegiate win came in a match tiebreaker over Miami's Pablo Aycart Joya, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(7). Keene fell to Matthew Mu of Brown, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0(8) in his second match of the day. Matsuno and Jarreau Campbell competed at the Bayliss Invite in South Bend, where Matsuno collected two wins in singles action. Matsuno earned his first win as a Spartan against Frederik Moe of Louisville in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(3). The Hoffman Estates, Ill. native went on to collect his second win of the day over Louisville's James Bell, 6-2, 6-0. Campbell dropped a pair of matches in day two action for the Spartans.
