MSU Baseball Caps Eventful Weekend At Sports Force Parks With Win Over Kent State

Spartans Top Golden Flash, 14-9
SANDUSKY, Ohio -- Michigan State baseball capped off an eventful weekend at Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio with a 14-9 victory over Kent State in a nine-inning exhibition Sunday afternoon.
Sunday's exhibition was the conclusion of an eventful weekend. The weekend got started by spending time with MSU alum Brian Storm of Fields, Inc., before a practice and event with the Force All Stars, followed by bowling and pizza party, before Sunday's exhibition game.
At the plate on Sunday afternoon, MSU rapped out 16 hits, including three home runs, drew nine walks and swiped nine bases. The Green & White scored in seven of its eight innings at the plate, plating three in the first, two in each the second and third, one in the fourth, two more in the fifth, one in the sixth then handing a three-spot in the seventh.
Sophomore outfielder Zaid Walker led the Spartan attack with a 3-for-3 outing, including a double, with two runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore infielder Peter Ahn was 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run, driving in two runs. Senior infielder/outfielder Bailey Peterson was 2-for-3 with a home run, part of three RBI, adding three runs scored, two walks and a stolen base.Â
Freshman outfielder Jack Frank was 2-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and drawing a walk. Sophomore infielder/outfielder Reese Trahey was 2-for-2 with a stolen base, while freshman outfielder Zach Hopman was 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two walks and a run scored. Junior catcher Adam Proctor rounded out the hit party going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
On the mound, the Spartan pitchers rang up 15 strikeouts, while yielding five walks. Senior Caleb Sleeman started and chalked up three strikeouts in 1.2 innings, followed by junior Mason Erla matching the three Ks in 1.1 innings. Senior Jarret Olson and senior Sam Benschoter each chalked up three punchouts in 1.2 innings, and classmate Zac Bianucci came on in relief with two on in the eighth and fired a strikeout. Sophomore Colton Panaranto tallied two Ks in 1.0 inning of work.
MSU Baseball's 2019 Golf Outing will take place Friday, Sept. 27 at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Fans are invited for a day of golf, food and fun, capped off with some baseball, all to support the MSU baseball program. The annual golf outing, sponsored by the Greenville Drive, will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The cost to play in the outing is $125 per person or $500 for a foursome and includes both lunch and dinner. Those guests wanting to join for dinner only can do so for $35. There will be longest drive, closest to the pin and skins contests. Hole sponsorship is also available for $200, with lunch sponsorship available for $1,000 and cart sponsorship available for $2,000.
Following the golf outing, all guests are invited to McLane Stadium at approximately 3:30 p.m. to watch the 2019-20 Spartan baseball team scrimmage, free of charge.
