EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming and diving program will host its 64th annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m. The gathering will be celebrated at McCaffree pool in IM West.
"This is the 64th Alumni Meet and this is the longest running athletic event on homecoming, other than the football game," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "We're hoping for and I'm looking forward to a big crowd and it is always nice to see everybody."
Coach Charles McCaffree and the Seibold family began this beloved tradition in 1955, and it has continued to be held during homecoming weekend ever since. Events at the meet include 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and medley relays. The Tosh Imai Memorial Plunge and a series of alumni diving events will also take place.
This marks the 18th year the Bill Heusner Service Award will be presented. Heusner, a meet referee for 40 years for Michigan State and the Big Ten Conference, never took a salary. In recognition of his service, the MSU swimming and diving program presents an award to those who provide outstanding service to the team.
Â
The following 2019-20 Bill Heusner Service Award recipients will be presented to during Saturday's event:
Reed & Holly Fowler
Mark & Mary Anne Rusch
Thomas Starks
Jason & Carly Vadney
Dianna Vanderpool
"This event means a lot to the program, and also me personally. It's one of my favorite days of the year because I really get a chance to see everybody come back," said Gianiodis. "They bring their families, their kids, the whole nine yards. So for me, in terms of what we are trying to do as an athletic program, this is essentially what it's all about."
