Michigan State Falls at Indiana, 67-63

Bloomington, Ind. – Michigan State's men's basketball team came back from a 15-point deficit and took a lead in the second half, but could not hang on as Indiana's Aljami Durham hit a 3-pointer with under two minutes left and the Hoosiers beat the Spartans, 67-63, at Assembly Hall on Thursday night.

Senior guard Cassius Winston (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) scored 17 points and had five assists to lead the Spartans, while sophomore forward Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) added 12 points, sophomore forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) had 10 points and junior forward Xavier Tillman (Grand Rapids, Mich./GR Catholic Central) added nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists

Summary

After taking a 58-57 lead on a basket from Henry with 4:11 to play, Indiana went up two points, 60-58, but Winston hit a pair of free throws with 2:56 to play, tying the game.
Winston missed a 3-point attempt on the next possession and Durham hit a long 3-pointer from the win with 1:52 to play, giving IU the lead for good, 63-60.
A basket from Tillman with 1:33 left cut the lead to 63-62 and trailing 65-62 after a layup from Joey Brunk, Winston hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 65-63.
Tillman stole the ball from IU's Rob Phinisee with 10 seconds left to give MSU one last shot, but his layup rimmed up and the Hoosiers hit a pair of free throws with less than a second left to seal the win.
Michigan State was behind by as many as 15 points (25-10) in the first half, but came out on fire in the second half, using a 21-11 run over the opening 8:12 to take a 51-48 lead on a 3-pointer from freshman guard Rocket Watts (Detroit, Mich./SPIRE Academy [Ohio]).
From there, it was back and forth, with six ties and eight lead changes in the final 12 minutes.
The Spartans went into the break trailing by seven points, 37-30, using a late run to pull back within four points before a 3-pointer at the buzzer from Durham.
MSU trailed by as many as 14 points, 18-4, early in the first half, but began to chip away and a 20-9 run pulled the Spartans to within 37-33 on a jumper from Winston with 4:58 to go.
