
Cook and Mork Honored as PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State Athletics and PNC Bank are partnering to recognize the PNC Achievers Student-Athletes of the Month. Throughout the 2019-20 season, deserving Spartan student-athletes will be recognized for displaying well-rounded achievement through leadership in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.

The honorees for January are Mardrekia Cook (women's basketball) and Nehemiah Mork (men's swimming).

Cook, a redshirt junior forward from Muskegon, Mich., is a human capital major. She has appeared in 17 games this season, starting five, ranking fifth on the team in scoring (5.8 ppg) and third in steals (1.0 spg). Last season, Cook was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Player of the Year. Off the court, she has taken part in the team's efforts at the EmpowHER Leadership Retreat and Fastbreak Club Golf Outing.

Mork, a senior from Midland, Mich., is a 4.0 student majoring in mechanical engineering. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar recipient, he was a USA Swimming Academic All-American last season. Mork has been a research assistant with the MSU College of Engineering for the past year, and spent last summer as an intern at the US Navy Base munitions range. In the pool, he is part of the school record holding relay teams in the 200 free and 400 free.
