No. 4 Michigan State Uses Big Second Half to Down Oakland, 109-91

East Lansing, Mich. – Junior forward Gabe Brown (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) scored a career-high 20 points as No. 4 Michigan State put seven players in double figures and used a big second half to pull away from Oakland for a 109-91 win at the Breslin Center on Sunday afternoon.
Junior forward Aaron Henry (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals, graduate guard Joshua Langford (Huntsville, Ala./Madison Academy) had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists, redshirt junior forward Joey Hauser (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Foster Loyer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) added 10 points and seven assists sophomore forward Malik Hall (Aurora, Ill./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]) had 10 points and six rebounds and freshman guard A.J. Hoggard (Coatesville, Pa./Huntington Prep [W. Va.]) added 10 points and three rebounds.

- Michigan State led by just four points (44-40) at the break, but used a 15-5 run over the first 1:51 of the second half and took a 59-45 lead on a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Rocket Watts (Detroit, Mich./SPIRE Academy [Ohio]).
- Oakland used an 8-2 burst to cut the lead back to eight points, 63-55, on a 3-pointer from Jalen Moore, but that was as close as the Grizzlies would get.
- The Spartans responded by out-scoring Oakland, 22-10, over the next six minutes and extended the lead to 20 points, 85-65, on a conventional three-point play from Brown with 8:58 to play.
- Michigan State took its biggest lead, 106-79 (27 points), on a pair of free throws from Hoggard with 2:55 left to play.
- The Spartans had taken an early 11-point lead (26-15) in the first half, but behind the shooting of Rashad Williams, who scored 23 points in the opening half, the Grizzlies narrowed the gap to 34-33 with 4:49 left before halftime.
