Winston Named to Midseason Watch Lists for Robertson, Naismith Awards

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State senior guard Cassius Winston (Detroit, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit) was named to the midseason watch lists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy and the for the Citizen Naismith Trophy on Thursday afternoon.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association named Winston one of 12 players to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. The award will be presented by its namesake at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta in April.
Winston was one of 30 players recognized on the Citizen Naismith Trophy list by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The 10 semifinalists for the award will be announced on March 5, with the finalists revealed on March 17. The winner of the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy for Men's Player of the Year will be announced on April 5 at the Naismith Awards Brunch in Atlanta.
This is the third national recognition in the last week for Winston, as he was selected to the Late Season Top 20 Watch List for the John R. Wooden Award® by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Winston, a consensus second-team All-American and the Big Ten Conference Player of the Year as a junior in 2018-19, leads Michigan State in scoring and ranks third in the league with 18.3 points per game. The senior is also fourth in the league in assists (5.7 apg), first in free throw percentage (86.0%), 10th in field goal percentage (42.4%) and fourth in 3-point percentage (38.6%).
Winston is one of only eight Division I players averaging at least 18.0 points, 5.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.
Michigan State returns home to the Breslin Center on Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting No. 9 Maryland. Tipoff on ESPN is slated for 6 p.m., with Dan Shulman and Jay Bilas calling all of the action.
