EAST LANSING – The 13th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team will compete in its second tournament of the spring when it begins play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Sunday in New Orleans. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will run Sunday – Tuesday and take place at the par-73, 6,336-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.
Michigan State is coming off a second-place finish at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 4. The Spartans shot a season-best 15-under-par 849 to finish six shots back of No. 3 Kent State. Yurika Tanida led MSU with the best finish of her career as she for second place at 7-under-par 209.
"We just have to keep the momentum rolling," said MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "We had a good start the last time out and felt like we were in a position to win and hopefully we'll feel that same way in New Orleans. It's a great golf course and a good field. All five of these players have played this golf course before, so they're familiar with it and have had some success there."
Teams will tee off from holes one and 10 starting at 10 a.m. ET for the first two rounds. The final round will start with a shotgun at 9 a.m. ET.
The Field
The 13-team field features four teams, including the Spartans, in the Golfstat top 35: Colorado State (115), Florida (10), Houston (23), Iowa (102), Miami (32), Michigan State (13), North Texas (57), SMU (112), South Alabama (130), Southern Miss (177), Tulane (89), Tulsa (107), UAB (127)
The Course
English Turn will play as a par-73, 6,336-yard course for the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The Lineup
MSU will go with Yuika Tanida, Ally Geer-Park, Valery Plata, Paz Marfa Sans and Haylin Harris, while Nini Rissi will play as an individual.
