No. 13 Spartans One Shot out of Top Spot Heading Into UCF Challenge Final Round

ORLANDO, Florida – The 13th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team shot a 2-under-par 286 in the second round of the UCF Challenge on Monday at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando. The Spartans are 8-under-par 568 (282-286) and tied with No. 3 Kent State for second place, one shot behind Miami for the tournament lead.

Yurika Tanida carded an even-par 72 on Monday and is in second place, while the Spartans have four players in the top 25. Tanida is 6-under-par 138 (66-72) and five shots behind Miami's Renate Grimstad for the tournament lead.
Valery Plata and Paz Marfa Sans led the Spartans on Monday as each recorded a 1-under-par 71.
Plata was extremely consistent all day as she pared 17 of the 18 holes and will go into tomorrow's final round tied for 11th place at 2-under-par 142 (71-71).
Marfa Sans trimmed three strokes off her opening-round score with the 3-under-par 71. She's tied for 25th place at 1-over-par 145 (74-71).
Like Plata, Allyson Geer-Park also had a steady second round as she put together 16 pars and wound up shooting an even-par 72. Geer-Park is tied for 18th place at 1-under-par 143 (71-72).
Haylin Harris shot a 3-over-par 75 and is 5-over-par 149 (74-75) for the tournament.
Individually, Nina Rissi had the best round of her young career as the freshman posted a 1-under-par 71. She's tied for 25th place at 1-over-par 145. Sydney Naro shot an even-par 72 on Monday and is 4-over-par 148 for the tournament.
Tuesday's third round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
