Patrick Khodorenko Agrees to Terms With the New York Rangers

EAST LANSING – Michigan State senior forward Patrick Khodorenko has agreed to terms with the New York Rangers on an entry-level contract, the club announced on Tuesday (March 10). Khodorenko's contract begins in 2020-21, and he will join the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) immediately on an Amateur Try-Out (ATO).
Khodorenko was the Spartans' leading scorer in 2019-20, putting up 33 points, including 16 goals. The native of Walnut Creek, California ended the regular season as the Big Ten leader in goals in conference games with 13, while finishing tied for fourth in the league scoring race with 22 points.
Khodorenko ended the regular season tied for the Big Ten lead with 11 multi-point games. In Big Ten play, he led the league with eight multi-point games.
He was named Big Ten First Star of the Week after compiling four points, including a game-winning goal, in a split at Penn State (Nov. 8-9). He capped his third three-point game of the year by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime in a 5-4 victory over Wisconsin (Dec. 7). Later in the season, Khodorenko recorded his second career hat trick in a 4-2 win over Penn State (Jan. 24).
The 2019-20 season also saw Khodorenko put together the best point streak of his career as he recorded 12 points (6g, 6a) over six consecutive games from Oct. 26 – Nov. 14.
Khodorenko finished his career with 120 points (54g, 66a), which is the eighth most by any Spartan since 2000 and the most since Bryan Lerg (128; 2004-08). Khodorenko's 54 career goals were the sixth most by a Spartan since 2000 and also the most since Lerg (68). He had 30 multi-point games in his career, including 10 with three or more points.
The Economics major and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree was named to the All-Big Ten second team last year as a junior.
