Opening Day of Colleton River Collegiate Cut Short; Spartans in Ninth

BLUFFTON, South Carolina – The Michigan State men's golf team opened play at the Colleton River Collegiate on Monday in Bluffton, South Carolina. The 15-team field completed the first round and over half the teams got through the second round before play was halted due to darkness at the Colleton River Club Dye Course.

With four of five Spartans having completed the second round, the Spartans will resume play on Tuesday tied for ninth place at 16-over-par. The second round will restart at 7:45 a.m., while those teams that completed the second round will begin teeing off in the final round at 8 a.m.
Just two teams in the field of 15 are under par. Georgia Southern leads the tournament at 10-under-par 566 (281-285), followed by Iowa State at 4-under-par 572 (276-296).
James Piot led all Spartans on Monday and is currently tied for third place at 3-under-par 141. He shot an even-par 72 in the opening round and then used five birdies to card a 3-under-par 69 in the second round.
Piot is just two shots behind the leader, Alex Schaake of Iowa, who is 5-under-par 139.
Bradley Smithson is tied for 40th place at 5-over-par 149 (73-76), while Landon Ernst is one shot back in 47th at 6-over-par 150 (76-74).
Troy Taylor II cut six strokes off his first-round score with a 2-over-par 74 in round two. He's 10-over-par 154.
Andrew Walker has two holes to play on Tuesday morning to complete his second round. He shot a 9-over-par 81 in the opening round.
Zach Rosendale is playing as an individual and has three holes left to play to finish out his second round on Tuesday. Rosendale shot a 5-over-par 77 in the first round.
The Spartans will begin teeing off from hole No. 10 in the third round at 8:50 a.m.
