Clouden and McCutcheon Earn All-Big Ten Honors

Sophomore Nia Clouden and senior Taryn McCutcheon capture postseason accolades.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball had two players named to the All-Big Ten teams Monday, as voted on by both the 14 league coaches and the media, and announced by the conference office. Sophomore guard Nia Clouden and senior guard Taryn McCutcheon were both named second-team All-Big Ten by the B1G coaches. Clouden was named second-team by the media, while McCutcheon grabbed honorable mention honors.
Clouden, a guard from Owings Mills, Maryland earned All-Big Ten honors for the second-straight season after capturing honorable mention honors as a freshman by both the coaches and the media. Last season, she was also on the All-Freshman squad. She was the first Spartan to be named to the All-Freshman team since Aerial Powers during the 2013-14 season. Clouden ended the regular season leading the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 ppg which stands ninth in the B1G. She was also tied for seventh in the league in steals (1.8 spg) and 11th in assists (3.4 apg).
McCutcheon, a guard from East Lansing, Michigan, has earned all-conference honors for the fourth-straight season. She becomes just the sixth Michigan State women's basketball player to earn All-Big Ten accolades all four years as a Spartan. Despite battling injuries this season, McCutcheon is second on the team in scoring with 10.8 ppg. She also stands ninth in the league in assists, averaging 3.6 ppg. The guard became MSU's all-time assist leader with 577 against Penn State on March 1.
McCutcheon and Clouden are the only two Spartans to have started all 29 games.
In head coach Suzy Merchant's 13 seasons, Michigan State has now earned 45 All-Big Ten selections. MSU has had at least two players earn All-Big Ten honors in all of those 13 seasons.
Iowa's Kathleen Doyle was named Big Ten Player of the Year by the both coaches and the media. Maryland's Ashley Owusu, captured Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and media. Nebraska's Leigha Brown earned Sixth Player of the Year honors, while Northwestern's Veronica Burton was the Defensive Player of the Year. Northwestern's Joe McKeown earned Coach of the Year honors by both the media and the coaches.
Senior forward Victoria Gaines was named Michigan State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
The No. 8-seeded Spartans (16-13, 9-9 B1G) will face No. 9-seeded Purdue (17-13, 8-10 B1G) in the second round on Thursday, March 5 at 12 p.m. ET at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. MSU is the No. 8 seed in the B1G Tournament for the first time in 27 years of the Big Ten Tournament.
