Piot Leads Spartans on Day One at The Concession

BRADENTON, Florida – The Michigan State men's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds of play on Monday in The Challenge at The Concession in Bradenton, Florida. The Spartans are 47-over-par 623 (305-318), 11-shots out of second place. Host South Florida was the only team in the field of 11 to put together a round under 300 on Monday and leads the tournament at 23-over-par 599 (299-300).

James Piot is one of four players tied for fourth place at 5-over-par 149 (63-76). Just one player in the field – South Florida's Albin Bergstrom – finished the two rounds under par and is in the lead at 2-under 142.
Piot had the lowest round of the day by any Spartan with a 1-over-par 73 on Monday morning. He followed it up with a 4-over-par 76 in round two.
On a day when birdies were rare, Bradley Smithson tied for the third most in the field on Monday with seven. Smithson is tied for 19th place at 12-over-par 156 (76-80).
Landon Ernst is 14-over-par 158 (78-80) and tied for 27th place, followed by Andrew Walker in 37th at 16-over-par 160 (78-82).
Troy Taylor II is 19-over-par 163 (80-83) and tied for 44th place.
The final round at the 7,470-yard course will get underway with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
